Summer Is Here—Give your Teeth a Treat!
Is summer cleaning the new spring cleaning? Whatever the season, it’s important to prioritize your oral health. Atlantis Dental Roundhouse would like to share a few things you can do to help keep your teeth healthy.
Remember to Floss
While brushing is great, flossing is an additional layer of protection for your teeth. Brushing alone does not remove all bacteria and particles between the teeth. By properly using dental floss, you can get into the spaces between your teeth and remove the bacteria that can eat away at enamel and eventually cause cavities.
Get a New Toothbrush
Did you know you should be replacing your toothbrush every three to four months? Old toothbrushes can actually carry and spread bacteria, which is the opposite of what you’re trying to accomplish when you brush your teeth. Using a new toothbrush is essential for the fight against tooth decay.
Say No to Sugary Drinks
Do your teeth a favour by saying no to sugary drinks. Sugar attaches to moist surfaces, which is the kind of environment bacteria thrive on. Bacteria and sugar work together to erode the enamel on your teeth. If you must have a sugary beverage, be sure to rinse your mouth after drinking the beverage, and then brush your teeth thoroughly.
Use Fluoride Toothpaste
Fluoride helps make your teeth stronger. Using fluoride toothpaste provides your teeth with a strengthening topical application. Ingesting fluoride through water or food also supports strong enamel. Both are a great way to support dental health.
Get Your Teeth Cleaned
Scheduling a professional teeth cleaning appointment at least once a year is important for your oral health. The cleaning process involves the dentist or dental hygienist removing plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth and in between your teeth. Plaque harbours bacteria, which destroys tooth enamel. Without removing it, you may get cavities or gum disease.
